Guy de Maupassant
Maupassant was born in Château de Miromesniel, Dieppe, France on August 5, 1850. Maupassant began to study law, but later went on to join the army during the Franco-Prussian War. As a poet Maupassant made his beginnig with the creation of Des Vers in 1880. Maupassant wrote about 300 short short stories and 6 novels in the 1880's and a volume on verse. Maupassant had suffered from his 20s from syphilis. The disease later caused an increasing mental disorder, and caused him to write some strange pieces. Maupassant attempted to commit suicide in 1892, and was commited into a hospital under the care of Dr. Espirit Blanche at Passy in Paris. He later died there on July 6, 1893.

1860s, he wrote his first great novel, War and Peace. In 1873, Tolstoy
set to work on the second of his best known novels, Anna Karenina.
Tolstoy was the youngest of 4 boys, and his mother died when he was young,
leaving his father's cousin to take car of the family she left behind. His father died
seven years later, and an aunt of Tolstoy's was given legal guardianship.Although Tolstoy
experienced a lot of loss at an early age, he would later write about his childhood memories in his writing.
